SHEFFIELD city centre is to be further enhanced by an exciting new leisure destination, which will bring a food, drink, and entertainment complex to the city.

STACK Sheffield is to be created on the Podium area at the existing Arundel Gate car park, breathing new life into the area between the Odeon Cinema and O2 Academy, with a series of shipping containers.

Plans submitted to Sheffield City Council last month (Sept) highlights how the new development will combine with the existing Tank nightclub, O2 Academy and Odeon Cinema to create a leading leisure destination.

The proposed scheme will see the shipping containers arranged across two floors and around a large central plaza seating area, which will be covered by a stretch tent to protect it from the elements.

At the centre of STACK will be a large stage with a full-size screen which will be used for live music and daily entertainment, fitting well with the O2 venue, while both the ground floor and upper level shipping containers will be filled with a range of street food operators and bars.

Plans for an additional bar on the plaza area facing the Odeon are also being submitted, which would be used as a temporary events space at specific times of year, such as housing a tipi during the winter months.

The STACK brand has gone from strength to strength since launching its first site in Newcastle and, along with currently running STACK venues at Seaburn in Sunderland, is also developing STACKs at Durham, Bishop Auckland, Whitley Bay, Middlesbrough, Northampton, Manchester, Carlisle, and Lincoln.

A new STACK site in Newcastle is also under construction, along with a Fan zone being created in conjunction with Newcastle United Football Club.

Assuming all goes to plan, it is anticipated the scheme will be up and running by Spring 2025.
