Meet our St. James' STACK Starting XI - Bao Down

Are you down St. James’ STACK?

Another familiar face joining us from OG STACK Newcastle and STACK Seaburn is Bao Down bringing the culinary cues from the Far East with a range of steamed bao buns, gyozas and more. And we can’t wait for them to join us at St. James’ STACK.

Owner Alex Hindson, who also owns Hatch 76, has been in the street food business for eight years, after first starting in 2016 at Newcastle's Quayside Market. Alex started Bao Down during lockdown, then opened their first venue at STACK Newcastle and since our OG site closed they’ve joined us at STACK Seaburn.

A pre-match Asian snack

As a chef by trade, Alex has carefully curated a menu boasting bao bun classics mixed with unique loaded fries combinations and a selection of gyozas.

“Fans of Asian food love bao buns and even if this is someone’s first introduction to them, we believe they’ll be really surprised at how delicious they are,” he said.

The buns are served in pairs, with diners able to choose a different filling for each one, giving them the opportunity to sample a variety of flavours.

Fillings include barbecue Korean pork, Katsu chicken, crispy Peking duck, barbecue jackfruit and crispy tofu and oyster mushroom.

New year, new site, same great tasting food

"We're thrilled to open our third Bao Down location at St. James' STACK and be back in a STACK site in Newcastle. It's a fantastic opportunity to share our famous bao buns with the passionate football fans here. We can't wait for everyone to experience the unique flavors and vibrant atmosphere that Bao Down is known for." said Alex.
