Meet our St. James' STACK Starting XI - Soju & Gogi

Soju & Gogi: blending traditional Korean food with a modern twist

Soju & Gogi is a beloved Korean restaurant in Newcastle, known for its authentic Korean BBQ and vibrant culinary experiences. They pride themselves on being the first Korean BBQ restaurant in Newcastle to use traditional charcoal BBQ. They’re dedicated to bringing the rich flavors of Korean cuisine to the heart of Newcastle and offering guests a taste of Korea’s diverse food culture.

Combing their love of travel and food, Soju & Gogi was born

The founders of Soju & Gogi Yoco and Eric are avid food lovers and frequent travelers to Korea, were captivated by the flavours and communal dining experiences found in Korean BBQ and street food. They aimed to bring that same excitement and authenticity back to Newcastle. After extensive research and numerous trips to Korea, Soju & Gogi was born, offering an authentic Korean dining experience that has been embraced by locals and visitors alike.

Inspired by the bustling street markets and BBQ joints of Seoul, Yoco and Eric wanted to create a space where people could enjoy traditional Korean dishes in a warm and welcoming environment. This dream led to the opening of Soju & Gogi, where traditional recipes are blended with a modern twist, creating a unique dining experience for customers.

Dishing up the goods at St. James’ STACK

Opening their new street food unit at St. James’ STACK allows Soju & Gogi to expand their unique dining experience, offering quick, delicious, and authentic Korean street food to even more people. The vibrant, social atmosphere of STACK perfectly aligns with their vision of bringing people through food.

Soju & Gogi selected their menu items to showcase the diversity and richness of Korean street food. From the whimsical Potato Storm to the flavorful Korean Dak-galbi, each dish was chosen for its popularity in Korea and its ability to bring a unique taste experience to customers. The Chicken & Vegetable Mandu and Tang Suyuk were selected for their perfect balance of textures and flavors, providing a taste of Korea’s culinary heritage. Additionally, the menu features the fun and delicious Korean Corn Dog, a popular street food favorite known for its crispy exterior and gooey, cheesy interior.

Founder Yoco says “We are thrilled to join the vibrant community at St. James’ STACK, a hub for food lovers and cultural enthusiasts. We look forward to sharing our love for Korean cuisine with a wider audience and being part of an energetic and dynamic environment. Our goal is to create memorable dining experiences, introduce more people to the delicious world of Korean street food, and contribute to the diverse culinary landscape of STACK.”
